Hikma Charity Association Somalia’s Education Programme aims to improve equitable access to safe, inclusive, and quality education for vulnerable children and young people throughout Somalia. The programme recognizes education as a fundamental right and an essential foundation for reducing poverty, strengthening communities, promoting social inclusion, and creating sustainable opportunities for future generations.
Children affected by displacement, poverty, drought, conflict, and inadequate educational infrastructure may face barriers to school enrolment, attendance, and learning. These challenges can be particularly severe for girls, children with disabilities, orphans, and children from households unable to meet education-related costs.
Hikma seeks to address these barriers through school support, educational materials, teacher development, school rehabilitation, scholarships, support for vulnerable learners, non-formal education, and vocational skills development.
Through cooperation with donors, educational institutions, communities, and relevant authorities, Hikma aims to help children access learning opportunities and support communities in building a stronger, more educated, and resilient society.
2. Background and Rationale
Education is essential for individual development, social stability, economic growth, and community resilience. However, vulnerable communities in Somalia may experience barriers including household poverty, displacement, inadequate school facilities, shortages of teaching materials, limited access to trained teachers, and the cost of school attendance.
Children who cannot access education face increased risks of long-term exclusion from employment and economic opportunities. Interruptions in learning can also affect their development, protection, and future well-being.
Hikma Charity Association Somalia seeks to support educational opportunities that respond to these challenges. The programme will prioritize communities with identified education needs and develop interventions according to local circumstances, available resources, and relevant education standards.
