Ramadan Food & Iftar Distribution

Project Summary  (The Ramadan Food and Iftar Distribution Project aims to alleviate acute food insecurity among vulnerable households in Baidoa District, Somalia, during the holy month of Ramadan. Ongoing conflict, recurrent droughts, displacement, and high food prices have significantly reduced household purchasing power, leaving many families unable to meet basic nutritional needs—especially during Ramadan, a period of increased food consumption and spiritual significance.

Through this one-month humanitarian intervention, Hikma Charity Association will distribute Ramadan food packages and provide daily iftar meals to the most vulnerable populations, including internally displaced persons (IDPs), female-headed households, elderly individuals, persons with disabilities, and orphaned children. The project will directly support approximately 300 households (about 1,800 individuals), ensuring access to sufficient, nutritious food throughout Ramadan.

The intervention will include procurement of essential food items, community-based beneficiary targeting, transparent distribution mechanisms, and close coordination with local authorities and community leaders. Monitoring and reporting systems will ensure accountability and compliance with HDF Kenya requirements.

Expected outcomes include improved food consumption, reduced negative coping mechanisms, enhanced dignity during Ramadan, and strengthened community trust. This project aligns with HDF Kenya’s humanitarian mandate by addressing urgent food needs while promoting compassion, solidarity, and social stability in crisis-affected communities.
